VIDEO: Copper Clappers Caper

Here is an example of a video being posted to our blog. In the future we anticipate having educational videos posted here or even a video of our beloved leader (LeeAnna Eaton, Director) giving us updates regarding our unit.

Last.FM

This link will take you to a website which will allow you to play your favorite artists and music from your personal computer's speakers while you work (or play!) If you will place your cursor on the heading above ("Last.FM") and click your right mouse key, it will give you the choice of opening the music website in a new tab or new window. Then you can select your favorite artist. You can allow the music to play in the background while you do other things on your (home) computer. Go ahead and give it a try and have some fun with it!

EDUCATION: Behavioral Health Assessments

Did you know that you, as a healthcare professional, have FREE 24-hour access to behavioral health professionals to assist you with your patients (and their families) care when it comes to behavioral health matters? This is owned and operated by Wellstar and its employees.

(770) 732-3789

Why would you, a patient or family member call this number? You may want to call this number if you have a patient who is having thoughts of hurting themselves or others or who is lashing out at staff verbally or physically. Family members may have a need to call this number if their loved one (recently brought home from the hospital) begins to say things that sound threatening to themselves or to the family (i.e. They seem depressed, agitated, extremely angry or volatile.) In addition, the 24-Hour Call Center fields calls related to depression, schizophrenia, bipolar disorders, and substance abuse as well.

These are just a few of the many reasons you may consider calling the Behavioral Health Assessment 24-Hour Call Center to speak with to a Psych Assessor. You do not need a physician order to call this number. However, when dealing with an inpatient, you should always work within the chain-of-command starting with the patient's nurse, resource nurse, manager, physician, and administration (such as the House Supervisor.) The Call Center can help you in deciding what your next step will be. This is especially important if we are talking about a patient who is exhibiting signs that they may harm themselves or others immediately or sometime in the future.

My idea is . . .

This section is devoted to the sharing of your ideas. Ideas that have been bouncing around in your head but haven't seen the light of day yet. Here is your opportunity to "Let the sun shine in!" Don't be afraid. Click the "My comment is . . ." button at the bottom of this box to get started. Don't hold back. Let her rip!

Shared Governance

It has been difficult for some to find the time and opportunity to attend the monthly Shared Governance Committee meetings. The scheduled meetings often conflict with your established plans. In an effort to remove these restrictions of time and place, we will begin piloting this blog as a substitution for these and other meetings. Success of this substitution will be measured by the level of participation it garners.

It's YOUR ideas and creativity which have thus far contributed to the success 7 Blue has experienced. We are often asked to pilot projects because we are so successful at what we do. We hope you'll continue to demonstrate this strength by participating in this forum. Dust off those ideas in your attic and share them with all of us so our patients, their families, and 7 Blue staff may benefit.

Also, your ideas that may relate more to "the big picture" (e.g. Kennestone Hospital, Nursing Administration, Wellstar . . . ) and it's operations are also welcome. We will be sure to pass them up the ladder. The Shared Governance committee will review all of your comments and suggestions here and determine the best course of action. They will periodically participate in the dialogues that take place within this forum and update you (via this forum) as to what actions have been taken and the status of your request(s). We all look forward to hearing from you!

Why Blog?

Gas is expensive. Meetings are time consuming. Errands have to be run. Kids, kids, kids and their activities! Why not blog? Blogging has recently found it's way into everyday use. There are more than 80 million blogs worldwide. CNN has blogs set up for each of their correspondents and programs. The Republican and Democratic campaigns relied heavily on blogging from their field agents and the American public. Blogging is convenient and easy. It reduces the time we spend traveling to and from meeting places and makes sure that our voices are heard on issues that matter the most to us. I hope you'll take the time to "play around" with this valuable tool and get comfortable with it. You're most likely going to see it become more and more prevalent in our society over time. You can even access it from your internet enabled phones and wi-fi devices.

As a gentle reminder, this forum is "public" and not "private." Therefore, comments will be reviewed by staff before being published to the web. Only that content which is potentially breaking HIPPA's confidentiality or which is considered inappropriate for this forum will fail to be posted. All other content will be posted as soon as possible. Thank you for your understanding and participation.
